History
The Catacombs of Neto Art Museum started with Neto’s childhood, particularly his playtime in the catacombs of the Antigua Guatemala Cathedral. At the age of seven, Neto began his first job as a tour guide, sharing the history of the ruins of La Antigua Metropolitan Cathedral of Santiago de Los Caballeros de Guatemala. The idea for The Catacombs of Neto was also influenced by the artist’s numerous visits to art museums, where he came to view them as sacred resting places for art. Neto believes that The Catacombs act as a resting place for his works, coming to life only when visitors interact with them, sparking a dialogue that invites personal introspection between the viewer and the art. The Catacombs of Neto Art Museum opened its doors on October 1, 2024, founded with the artist's vision of creating a bilingual inclusive and accessible space, free and available to the public. The museum aims to use art as a universal tool for education, connection, and change, that speaks and relates to all.
